About the Series
Salem State Series to Feature Iconic Major League Baseball Player David Ortiz and International Human Rights Lawyer Amal Clooney
In its 40th year, the Series is set to return to in-person events, with proceeds providing the university vital unrestricted support. Tickets go on sale March 29.
Iconic Major League Baseball Player David Ortiz (“Big Papi”) and International Human Rights Lawyer Amal Clooney are slated to visit Salem State University in the spring and fall of this year, respectively. The visits come as the Salem State University Foundation, Inc. celebrates the 40th anniversary of its popular speaker series and plans a return to in-person events after switching to a virtual format in early 2020 when the pandemic hit.
Ortiz is scheduled to visit Salem State on May 4, 2022, for a conversation about the skills needed to succeed, leadership and giving back. Clooney’s Salem State visit will be held September 20, 2022 and will include a discussion about her work as an international human rights lawyer. Full bios are available at salemstate.edu/series.
VIKING WARRIOR DAY - 1,854 Minutes to Make a Difference!
Ortiz’s May 4 visit is the final event of the university’s annual day of giving, Viking Warrior Day, which is now in its fifth year. Proceeds from the Series and from Viking Warrior Day will benefit the Salem State Annual Fund, providing vital unrestricted support to the university.
Viking Warrior Day is an energetic, inspiring day that unites our Viking community to do what we do best: work together. Each year Viking Warrior Day builds a better, stronger, more affordable Salem State for students. We can think of no better way to celebrate the Series’ impressive legacy than by focusing a discussion on leadership, achievement, equity, and the power of philanthropy.
Salem State University is committed to equal access for students, staff and visitors, and encourages all to participate in its programs and activities. People who anticipate needing accommodations due to a disability, or who have questions about access, may contact disability services at access@salemstate.edu.
The Series, presented under the auspices of the Salem State University Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that alumnus and longtime supporter Dennis Drinkwater '67, '12H, of Denorabilia LLC is the presenting sponsor.
